The predictable flooding and controlled irrigation of the fertile valley produced surplus crops, which supported a more dense population, and social development and culture.

The success of ancient Egyptian civilization came partly from its ability to adapt to the conditions of the Nile River valley for agriculture. The Greek Ptolemaic Kingdom, formed in the aftermath of Alexander's death, ruled Egypt until 30 BC, when, under Cleopatra, it fell to the Roman Empire and became a Roman province. During the course of its history Egypt was invaded or conquered by a number of foreign powers, including the Hyksos, the Libyans, the Nubians, the Assyrians, the Achaemenid Persians, and the Macedonians under the command of Alexander the Great. The history of ancient Egypt occurred as a series of stable kingdoms, separated by periods of relative instability known as Intermediate Periods: the Old Kingdom of the Early Bronze Age, the Middle Kingdom of the Middle Bronze Age and the New Kingdom of the Late Bronze Age.Įgypt reached the pinnacle of its power in the New Kingdom, ruling much of Nubia and a sizable portion of the Near East, after which it entered a period of slow decline. Ancient Egyptian civilization followed prehistoric Egypt and coalesced around 3100 BC (according to conventional Egyptian chronology) with the political unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under Menes (often identified with Narmer). I figure if nothing else, the History Edition might be easier to run in 5 to 10 years than the original game.Ancient Egypt was a civilization of ancient Africa, concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile River, situated in the place that is now the country Egypt. The History Edition is a solid package, though it didn't completely blow be away. They definitely didn't fix the most annoying "bug" where the AI responds to your attacks with a forced move command, meaning their soldiers don't fight back unless they get to the tower you're attacking. The AI behaves much like I remember from the original game. I've always wondered if that was an odd design decision? Can't comment on the getting stuck problem, as I don't remember it in the original game any more than settlers getting stuck on other things like terrain.ģ) If they improved the AI, it's not a substantial improvement, sadly. I didn't do a test though, so I could have just been really lucky.Ģ) I don't think they changed Amazon LGT/Castles to only let two soldiers attack. Level 3 bowmen seemed much better in the History Edition for Egypt. Here's my experience as someone with probably a thousand or more hours in the original and ten or so games in the History Edition of S3 (just don't have the time to play S3 much anymore)ġ) They either fixed Egyptian bowmen or it's better than before.
